Animal welfare

For four generations, we have been ensuring the welfare of our cows.

Our priorities are the comfort of our cattle and animal welfare.  For over four generations, our animals have been led by our hand with a close relationship between farmer and cattle. No need for dog or stick. Our cows live in a stressless environment.

FREE OF PREVENTIVE ANTIBIOTICS

On the Vialars Farm, we do not use preventive antibiotics – banned by the European Union since October 2018 – and we ensure a good and healthy animal feed to prevent diseases.

THE MISTING SYSTEM

A misting system has been installed in the three barns that allow us to prevent the stress caused by hot temperatures and dehydration of animals. The misting system reduces temperature and contributes to better living conditions for our herd while using a minimum amount of water and energy. In addition, it allows the complete removal of all airborne mulch dust and guarantees clean air in the barns. Thanks to the misting system, the humidity of the air is pleasant for our cows.

THE QUALITY OF THE AIR

In the barns, good quality of the air is essential to the animal and people health. The combination between the misting system and the air ventilation helps to prevent flies from entering the barns.

BRUSHES AVAILABLE FOR ALL THE ANIMALS

There are rotating brushes available for all the animals in each barn on the Vialars Farm. These brushes allow them to scratch and get a massage. This brushing not only stimulates blood circulation but also removes dust and dirt from their skin. It helps to prevent any kind of skin disease.

THE MUSIC

Many studies in animal farming have shown that loud noise such as the one generates by machines can significantly increase the stress level of animals. Our experience on the Vialars Farm has shown that our cows do not like sudden noise but however, they are receptive to music. That is why we have music played continuously inside the barns during the day. The music helps them to get used to different sounds that they could hear anywhere on shows or when they are moved onto trucks.
